Etisoft introduced to its offer labels coated with thermochromic paints in order to respond to the needs of the market related to temperature control during storage and transportation of products, and the reported need for easy visual verification of the proper functioning of refrigerating appliances.

 

Temperature control – change of label colour

 

Thermochromic paints used in the printing process contain a pigment that does not change colour at neutral temperature ranges. Whereas each change which exceeds this scope causes the pigment to change colour.The scope within which the label will change colour is individually matched to the needs reported by the client and regulated by means of dosing an appropriate amount of a pigment used in the paint.

It is also important that we are technologically able to match a pigment in such way that after exceeding neutral temperature colour changes can be permanent or temporary (after returning to a neutral temperature the label loses its colouring).

What does it look like in practice?

 

Let’s assume that we transport medicine the transportation and storage of which needs to take place at a temperature that does not exceed 18 degrees Celsius. How can we check that the expected temperature has not been exceeded? There nothing easier than that.
Our technologist will choose the paint for you that will remain transparent at the temperature range from 0 to 18°C. If the temperature does not rise above the expected one during storage and transportation, the label will not change colour. If the temperature exceeds 18°C mentioned above, the pigment will become reactive and change colour permanently.
Another example may be the need for easy visual check whether the temperature inside a device, i.e. in the fridge, is suitable for storing products. Let’s assume that we expect the temperature inside the fridge not to be higher than 5°C. Our technologist will choose a pigment in such a way that will enable the label to change colour into a chosen one at the temperature below 5°C, and the colour to remain unchanged at the temperature above 5°C. In this case the pigment applied enables a multiple transition from colour changing to colourlessness.

The solution presented above may distinguish your product from the products of competitors in a modern and simple manner. It is also able to improve consumer safety directly related to whether the product has been stored and transported at the appropriate temperature.
